NWSC v SSBOC Challenge Day February 20th 2010

To all members

Just a friendly reminder that our next NWSC v SSBOC challenge day will be held at the club site

Saturday February 20th 2010  8.00am – 3.00pm.

Everyone is welcome so come along and have a fun day without the hassle of having to bring your own boat;

I would like to remind everyone that this is a Competition Fun Day where members are encouraged to come along and represent NWSC in our efforts to finally defeat SSBOC (the wooden boat club), hopefully 3rd time lucky.

To enable me to pre-plan and assemble a team in advance it would be greatly appreciated if all prospective participants could contact me advising of what events they wish to enter.

If you are interested in coming or have any queries at all please contact me via email – aaatsp@westnet.com.au or mobile 0414 821 824 – Please no phone calls after 7.00pm.

Please find listed below the events that will take place on the day.

Event 1. The Barefoot (Drag) Time Trial: 8.00am start – 6 Skiers per club

Two boats and skiers side by side, straight course drag starting downstream and finishing at the club site.

Let me give those of you who have never attempted Barefooting, a brief insight to what it’s like to do a deep water start.

As the boat takes off you are pulled underwater resembling a fishing lure  for approx 10 metres, this is quickly followed by your bum being constantly pounded as you  sit up for the next 30 – 50 metres followed by approximately 40,000 litres of river water per second being sprayed into your face as you attempt your three point position unless you enjoy this experience which is very similar to having facial using a Gerni you tend to stand up very quickly, unfortunately in the world of Barefooting face plants are common and they are often likened to doing a belly flop off the 10 metre platform at your local pool with the added discomfort of your eyelids peeling backwards.

Summary: Clearly this event is designed for people with a very low I.Q. and a very high pain threshold !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Event 2. The Slalom Course:  9.00am start – 12 Skiers per club

Men’s Slalom – 30mph on a 55’ rope

Women’s Slalom – 28mph on a 55’ rope

Under 17 Slalom – 25mph on a 70’ rope

Under 12 Slalom – 15mph on a 70’ rope

This event is especially designed for all the Moomba wannabees in both clubs hence the 55’ rope for both the men’s and women’s slalom, besides a 70’ rope is probably better suited to bungee jumping rather than slalom skiing.

Please note Under 17 & Under 12 both gain points for just crossing the wake.

Summary:  This event is designed for people who can actually see the buoys!!!!!!!!!!!!

Event 3. The Slalom Course Wakeboard Challenge:  11.00am start – 8 Skiers per club

 Men’s Wakeboard Slalom – 20mph on a 55’ rope

Women’s Wakeboard Slalom – 18 mph on a 55’ rope

Under 17 Wakeboard Slalom – 15 mph on a 70’ rope

Under 12 Wakeboard Slalom – 10mph on a 70’ rope

This event is Wakeboarding thru the Slalom course inner buoy’s for the men & women or just crossing the wake for the juniors behind a wakeboard boat at slow speeds  Please note Under 17 & Under 12 both gain points for just crossing the wake.

Summary: This event is designed for people who would rather ski at a speed that is closer to Nanna riding a pushbike than a NASCAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Event 4. Combination Time Trial: 12.30pm start – 4 Teams per club

Each team = 2 Men + 1 Woman + 1 Child Under 17

1st Skier Wakeboard starts behind the boat

2nd Skier Doubles starts from the bank or pontoon

3rd Skier Kneeboard starts from the bank or pontoon

4th Skier Slalom Starts from the bank or pontoon

This event involves each team racing against the clock and each other around the oval course.

Summary: This event is designed to create chaos and mayhem from start to finish!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Event 5.  Le Mans Start Balloon Time Trial: 1.30pm start - 5 Teams = 10 Skiers per club

This event involves the driver and both skiers in a Le Mans start while carrying balloons racing against the clock and each other around the oval course, time penalties apply for lost or deflated balloons. Each boat must come to a complete stop after crossing start/ finish line the first time ensuring 2 deep water starts per race.

Summation: This event is designed to challenge your ability to stop & start 2 up while carrying a balloon, attention all kids the start & finish line is directly in front of the site so don’t forget to bring your water pistols and water bombs to make this event so much harder for the skiers!!!!!!!!

Question: What do you call a wooden boat that won’t go ????

Answer:  Kindling !!!!!!!!!!!

Let’s make this a day to remember - See you there!!!!

Club Day this Saturday the 21st November.  Come along.

For the information of all members.

Be aware that the river will be closed on November 14th until approximately 1pm.  This is due to the Head of the River Rowing Regatta.

You will be able to use the river once the rowers have cleared the area.

Just a reminder that Memberships are now due.  You have until the 1st of November to pay your memberships.  I still have 11 memberships outstanding.  Don't get caught out!

Cheers  Trevor RIM

Well what a wild, wet and windy day at Woodstock.  Thanks to the 33 families and boats that made the effort to attend the AGM & safety inspection day. I will update the committee page shortly however you will be hard pressed to find much of a change.

Now to those that did not make it to Woodstock...remember that there is a working bee at the site next weekend and memberships can be finalised then.  If not it will be up to the individual to arrange the payment of money, the collection of stickers and having your boat inspected before you get a key.   If you do not make contact with the club by November 1st...your position will be offered to the next person on the waiting list.

Here are a couple of pics from the day.  Thanks Rob Vanderleest
